October 4th Program Highlights
Swagata Nag started her classical vocal training from the age of 4. When she was 6 she took her music training from the renowned maestro Pt. Ajoy Chakroborty. She has featured in Doordarshan TV for continuous 7 years as a child artist both in singing and acting. A winner in various inter- school and inter- college competitions. She was one of the top 12 contestants in Golden Voice in Zee Bangla. She has featured in lot of Bengali TV Channels like ETV Bangla, Akash Bangla, Zee Bangla, Rupashi Bangla, Tara Muzik, Mohua Bangla etc..Her latest achievement is that she was one of the Top 10 contestants in a show called "Sur Sangraam" in Mahua Bangla Channel..Her Bengali playback has released, in a movie called Bazikar in 2010. There are two songs, one with Javed Ali and another with Vinod Rathod... Currently she is working with the renowned Music Director Bappi Lahiri and Babul Supriyo.
Shantoneel is a Bangladesh-born and Queens, New York-raised singer that embraces the rich cultural history and musical forms of Indian and Bangla traditions with modern instrumentation and contemporary dance rhythms. The music is influenced by Hindi, pop, bhajan, ghazal, semi-classical, folk, sufi, and Bangla traditions that eloquently convey the emotive lyrical content and meditative instrumentation constructed around uplifting, though spacious, beats. Moreover, the music fits into the world music and ethnic fusion genres rather aptly. Shantoneel’s vocal training began at the age of four from his mother in the 1980s, but Shantoneel has worked with a long list of prominent teachers over the years. Shantoneel brings a unique blend of world fusion to the table that showcases Bangla and Indian elements throughout. The incorporation of modern instrumentation, classical beats, and ethnic infusions provides a more than suitable foundation for enthralling tunes and satisfied listeners. As Shantoneel succinctly states, “I don’t sing for critics, I sing for the general public—who I can relate with.”
